What is the difference between a food bank and a food pantry? A food bank is the storehouse for millions of pounds of food and other products that go out to the community. A food pantry functions as the arms that reach out to that community directly.

What does food insecurity mean?  It is the state of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.

The Greater Boston Food Bank has a goal to become Hunger Free in Eastern Massachusetts by 2028.
As the largest hunger relief organization in New England, GBFB is uniquely positioned to accomplish this goal and has already begun its efforts. To get hunger free, GBFB has a three-pronged plan to end hunger.
  • Build and strengthen the capacity of the network of partner organizations to more efficiently and effectively get food to people in need.  The Hanson Food Pantry is a partner with the GBFB.
  •  Increase the percentage of healthy and nutritious food distributed.
  • Lead and support public policy and research initiatives to support the capacity of our network.
